Klook eSIM Review: How to Use & Country Tests (Japan, Spain)
While I’ve used Klook for years, one product I was hesitant to try out was their eSIMs. After all, Klook is best known as a place to book experiences, but they also offer things like train tickets, hotels, and eSIMs.
And today I want to talk about eSIMs from Klook because I’ve been using them a lot more recently. In fact, Klook is now one of the main places I go to buy eSIMs.
In this Klook eSIM review, I’ll cover my experience with the eSIMs, the benefits, how they work, and the countries I’ve used them in so far.

My Experience and Klook eSIM Review

I’ve been using Klook eSIMs more often since I realized they were more affordable than other providers yet still reliable.
I also use Klook to book lots of activities and experiences, so integrating Klook eSIMs into my travels was easy.
Visit my Klook Kreator Shop for my favorite activities I’ve booked on Klook. & Use code “kaylacosmos” for 10% off your first booking!
I first tried a Klook eSIM in Japan in 2024, and it was a pretty seamless experience.
While Klook is most popular for eSIMs in countries like Japan and South Korea, you can find eSIMs available worldwide on Klook.
In 2026, I used Klook eSIMs in Turkey, Spain, and Malaysia. I used some of these eSIMs for over a month, so my Klook eSIM review and opinion are pretty positive.
Klook.comPerks of Using eSIMs from Klook
There are a few reasons I keep choosing eSIMs from Klook over competitors. Here are a few of the best perks and benefits in this Klook eSIM guide.
eSIM Coverage Around the Globe
I’ve got to start off this Klook eSIM review with the basics: how many destinations are Klook eSIMs available? From what I’ve gathered, you can get eSIMs for over 200 destinations, so basically on par with other major eSIM brands.
Klook eSIMs are most popular in destinations like Japan, but you can use them in Europe, North America, Latin America, and many other destinations worldwide.
I always check Klook first for eSIMs, especially in countries where local data plans are already costly.
Variety of Data Options
My favorite thing about choosing eSIMs from Klook is that they seem to offer more data package options.
You can usually choose either a total amount of data or a set amount per day, then select how many days you need.
Here are some screenshots from the Klook App to show what I mean.

I typically choose 1 GB/day, but you can sometimes pick 500 MB/day or even 3 GB/day. You can also choose unlimited data.
In the Klook app, just pick your travel dates (they don’t need to be exact), and it will show the options for that destination.
Affordability
I think people are sleeping on Klook eSIMs because they’re often much more affordable than providers like Airalo or Saily.
And no shade to those other providers — I love Airalo! But considering my official Klook eSIM review is that they’re pretty reliable, I’m picking Klook for my eSIMs most often these days.
Here are some examples of countries where I paid for a month of service and what it cost:
In Turkey, I paid $17 for 1 GB/day for 30 days.
In Spain, I paid $18 for 1 GB/day for 30 days.
These prices are pretty unbeatable, especially if you want a convenient eSIM for your travels.
Data Bank

One of my favorite perks of using eSIMs from Klook is the data bank, which carries over leftover data from past eSIMs and lets you apply it to new ones.
With any package, I can add gigabytes from my databank for free.
If you’re a full-time traveler like me, this can be super helpful because I change out eSIMs often and can build a balance to use later.
Hotspotting (Depending on eSIM)

At this point, hotspotting is pretty common regardless of the eSIM provider, and yes, that is one of the benefits in this Klook eSIM guide.
No, not every Klook eSIM offers hotspotting, but if hotspotting is important to you, check the eSIM information on your desktop to confirm whether it’s available. I used my Klook Turkey eSIM for hotspotting with ease when WiFi was spotty!
Reliable Connectivity
Overall, Klook’s eSIMs are quite reliable, but I have only used them in cities, so I can’t speak to how they perform in the countryside.
With each Klook eSIM, you can usually see which provider you will be connected to. So if you’re concerned about connectivity, especially in rural areas, check the local provider to see how well they perform.
App Access
This is a very niche benefit when it comes to using eSIMs from Klook. Because some countries, like Turkey, have blocked eSIM apps.
For example, if you want to use Airalo in Turkey, you need to set up an eSIM before you land, because otherwise you can’t open the app. You can read more about Turkey blocking eSIM providers here.
And that’s why Klook is great for eSIMs.
Let’s say you land in Turkey without an eSIM but decide you want one. Because Klook is an app built around booking experiences, it isn’t banned as an eSIM provider, so you can access it and still buy eSIMs.
Klook eSIM Guide on How to Use
I just talked a pretty impressive game about Klook eSIMs, but let’s get into how they work so you can try them yourself with confidence.
How to Install eSIMs from Klook
Klook eSIMs work similarly to all the other major eSIM companies out there, but let’s cover the process just in case.
Download the Klook App
You can browse eSIMs on your desktop or in the app, but since you must download eSIMs directly to your phone, I recommend using the app.
If hot-spotting is important to you, check the eSIM information on your laptop first to see whether that destination’s eSIM supports hot-spotting.
And if you buy your eSIM on your laptop, you can scan a QR code to install it on your phone.
Another benefit of having the Klook App on your phone is that you can check your data balance and top up if needed.
Buy Your eSIM Package
To find the right eSIM for you, search your destination (country or region) with “eSIM” added, and the options will appear.
After you select the eSIM you’re interested in, choose how many days you’ll need it, then choose between a set amount of data per day or a total amount of data.
The desktop and app work a bit differently, but they’re very straightforward.
Install eSIM from inside the Klook App
Now you just need to install the eSIM.
You’ll find the eSIM in your trips, and that’s where you’ll find the “Activate” or “Add eSIM to Device” button, and it will install directly to your phone.

Even after you “activate” the eSIM, the number of days you bought won’t start until you land in the country and get a data connection.
General Tips for Using eSIMs from Klook
Here are some general usage tips to make using eSIM’s from Klook easy.
Install Before Traveling
This is a given when using any eSIM.
Let’s say you land and you don’t have your eSIM installed yet. Then you’ll need to find Wi-Fi to install it, and not every airport has reliable, secure Wi-Fi.
Be sure to install the eSIM before you take off, so when you land, it’s already in your phone’s cellular settings, ready to use.
Check Installation Settings
One thing to note, regardless of the type of eSIM you’re using, is to always double-check the APN settings to make sure the eSIM works.
I typically check this before I take off so that when I land, there should be no problems.

Klook offers an APN settings guide for each eSIM, so after you install it, you can check that the APN settings are set up correctly.
Countries I’ve used eSIMs from Klook
Here are a few countries that I’ve used eSIMs from Klook in and how it went.
Turkey
Turkey is known for having expensive SIM cards and eSIMs.
So when I looked at Klook and saw they offered a 30-day, 1 GB/day plan for about $18, it was an immediate yes. Typically, monthly plans in Turkey are at least $30 or more.
Because I spent two months in Istanbul, it was easy to buy my second month through Klook’s app. This was a relief, especially as other eSIM providers are banned and more difficult to access once in Turkey. With Klook, even if I completely ran out of data, I could still access the app.
Japan
Japan was the first place I tried using Klook eSIMs, and they worked pretty well.
I did run into an issue the first time I had to purchase more data, though. When I went outside away from WiFi, I just couldn’t connect.
It was an APN issue, and once I fixed it, the data worked great. Always double-check those APN network settings!
Spain
Countries in Europe are some of the pricier destinations for eSIMs. That said, I was still impressed by Klook’s price.
I spent two months in Spain and paid about $18/month for 1 GB/day.
During those two months, I was mostly in Sevilla, so I can’t speak to how reliable it would be while traveling by train or driving and needing GPS. But for everyday use living in Sevilla, it was perfect.
Malaysia
For long stays in Malaysia, I will usually recommend getting a local SIM card because they’re very affordable, even at the airport.
But one day, I had a five-hour layover at Kuala Lumpur Airport, so I bought 1 GB of data to use during my layover. Even if airport WiFi works, I don’t trust it for security, so getting an eSIM just for a short layover worked great.
FAQs About Klook eSIMs
Before I wrap up my Klook eSIM review, let’s cover a few FAQs.
How Many Days Can You Use Klook eSIMs?
Klook often sells eSIM packages from 1 to 30 days. You can also usually choose specific lengths, like 9 days.
What support does Klook offer for eSIMs?
For eSIM help, you can select the support button on your order.
You can usually see the service provider and may need to contact them if Klook cannot help you directly.
Can you Hotspot Klook eSIMs?
It depends, but in my experience, most of the time, yes.
Always check the eSIM details to see whether hotspotting works. I usually open the eSIM page on my laptop for the full in-depth details.
Do Klook eSIMs offer local phone numbers?
In general, no.
If you need a local phone number, it’s usually best to buy a SIM card at your destination.
That said, some local providers sell their own eSIMs on Klook and may offer a phone number. For example, Taiwan’s Chunghwa Mobile, which includes calling and a phone number.
