My Experience with the Best London Food Tours & Activities

One of my favorite ways to get to know a place is through food and socializing along the way. All of the best London food tours and experiences I’m sharing are perfect for foodies, history lovers, and first-time or returning visitors.

I’ve done most of the best London food experiences on this list, and the rest are on my wishlist for next time!

Best London Food Tours

These are the best London food tours that are beyond just bites, but include exploring the city and getting into history.

London Cheese Tour

Cost: ~$50

Hands down, one of my favorite London food tours ever is this cheese tour.

The tour was super entertaining with our comedic guide, and what better combo than cheese and comedy?

While countries like France are known for cheese, some of the cheeses we tried on this London food tour blew my mind, with Stilton becoming a new favorite.

If you love cheese, then trust me, add this London food tour to your list. You’ll visit a variety of shops, try many cheeses, and learn about the cheese-making process along with the stories behind them.

Borough & Leadenhall Market Tours

Cost: ~$100

The Borough & Leadenhall Market tour was one of the best London food tours because it also includes a full-on history lesson about London with a fancy lil’ wine and cheese tasting to wrap it all up.

From morning till mid-afternoon, you get to try SO many different foods. Trust me, I was stuffed by the end.

Tours like this are so convenient because instead of splurging on a few larger dishes and filling up fast, you get to try all the most popular dishes.

And yes, Borough Market is touristy, but trust me, it’s still fun to visit if you haven’t been and the guide knows all the best spots to take you.

Pub Crawl + Snacks

Cost: ~$100

This wouldn’t be a list of the best London food tours without a pub tour.

It’s another London food tour with great history and storytelling. I mean, you’re basically just hanging with your guide at a variety of pubs and getting all the tea on London’s history. Some pretty dark history, too.

In addition to a drink at each pub, they serve a different bar snack. I don’t want to reveal too much, but they’re all pretty grubby and delicious. Except for the pork pie… that’s the only bar snack I wasn’t a huge fan of on this London food tour.

Notting Hill Walking Tour + Food

Cost: ~$100

The Notting Hill walking tour, with local bites along the way, is one of the more unique London food tours on this list. If you want to explore and learn about London outside the most popular tourist areas, this is the perfect choice.

You’ll pass by Bob Marley’s old recording home, see one of George Orwell’s London homes, and grab nibbles along the way at local bakeries and Portobello Street Market.

Pro tip: The Go City London Pass also includes a Notting Hill walking tour with food, where you can save money bundling multiple London activities under one price.

No Diet Club East London

Cost: ~$75

If you want the most variety beyond typical British bites, this No Diet Club food tour of East London is the best pick.

While this tour MAY include some English cheese tasting, London’s global food scene really shines here.

Dishes may vary tour to tour, but you’ll get to try things you never would have thought to stop for. You may even go back on your own, knowing these hidden gems like a local.

Obi’s African & Caribbean Food Tour in Brixton

Cost: ~$115

I’m guilty and have to admit I haven’t tried the African and Caribbean food in London yet. So this tour is on my list for next time!

If you want a deeper look at London, with a side of history you don’t learn on the usual tours, this walking food tour in Brixton is worth keeping in mind.

The guides are Brixton locals who know the community, the markets, and, of course, the best bites.

Top 30 Sights + Food Smapling

Cost: ~$100

This is a full-on London tour with the best sights and bites in just 6 hours. If you’re looking to be efficient with your London food tour and are a first-timer in the city, then this might be one of the best experiences to consider.

The tour takes you from Buckingham Palace and ends in Borough Market, with plenty of stops along the way.

It packs 30+ sights into this tour, so there’s a lot to encounter on the journey. And with 8 bites included, you’ll get to delve into the local food scene.

Best London Food Experiences & Workshops

Aside from London’s walking food tours, London also has plenty of foodie experiences and workshops. Here are three of my favorites from my few London trips.

Gin Tasting

gin tasting glass at greenwich distillery in london on tasting experience

Cost: ~$35

Okay, this might not be a London food experience, but a drink experience. Still, I had to include it.

Did you know the UK has a seriously dark gin history? Well, if you didn’t, now I’ve sparked your curiosity.

And this gin tasting workshop in London dives into that dark history while testing your taste buds.

This was one of my absolute favorite London food tours and experiences because, well…I love gin, but didn’t know that much about it.

It’s a great London food experience to save for an evening to wind down and have some laughs, all while learning about the gin-making process, the botanicals, and its history.

Since it’s in Greenwich, it’s a great idea to take some time to explore the local area, with cute shops, parks, and historic buildings.

Scone Making Workshop

scone making set up at one of the best london food experiences and workshops

Cost: ~$40

I joined this London scone-making workshop with my friend using the Go City London Pass.

This scone-making workshop is a fun London food experience for anyone, whether you’re looking for something to do with the family or you just love to bake.

The scone-making workshop covers the history of scones, settles the old jam vs clotted cream debate, and obviously, you get to eat the scones you made yourself. With tea included!

Afternoon Tea Cruise

Cost: ~$60 – 100 depending on the season

Afternoon tea on the Thames was one of my favorite London food experiences, and I’d do it again in an instant.

The afternoon tea cruise serves up unlimited cups of tea while you float along the Thames, crossing under the famous Tower Bridge and passing by Westminster Abbey.

And if you don’t drink caffeine, that’s no problem, as the menu includes a few tea options, with caffeine-free herbal teas available.

As for the bites, I thought the scone was so delicious I could have eaten 10 of them. The rest of the sandwiches and desserts were good, but nothing mind-blowing either.

Make Your Own Gin Workshop

Cost: ~$130 (with discount for a pair of two)

This gin-making workshop is one of the best London food experiences, where you get to bring home your own custom bottle. Talk about a great souvenir idea, too.

While I got to experience the London gin tasting workshop, I definitely missed out on making my own.

The workshop covers the gin-making process, and you learn about the botanicals and choose your favorites to infuse.
